This residential care facility adopts the form of a free-standing country house, square in plan and organised around a central landscaped courtyard. The building is carefully set into a levelled terrace, clearly defined from the surrounding gardens, with entrances positioned at each corner to create a highly efficient circulation strategy.

Designed to provide comfort and clarity for elderly residents, the building fosters a reassuring domestic environment while supporting the practical needs of visitors and staff. Each of the three upper floors is arranged as a self-contained ‘home’ for forty residents, with communal dining and sitting rooms forming the heart of each community. Bed-rooms with en-suite showers are positioned around a continuous corridor, which is punctuated by diagonally placed corner windows to ensure daylight reaches deep into the plan.

At ground level, shared amenities physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, recreational therapy, café, synagogue, and salon are located around the courtyard, along with back-of-house facilities including the kitchen, laundry and staff areas.

The architecture is legible and comforting. Bay windows in brick walls articulate each resident’s room and provide generous window seats. The ground floor adopts a lighter language, with timber infill panels between exposed concrete and an arcade beneath the cantilevered upper floors supported by steel trusses. Inside, the courtyard is lined with continuous glazing, creating a tranquil and transparent heart to the building.
