Hopkins were asked to design a 14,000 m² extension to the Sharjah Exhibition Centre, the first trade fair centre in the UAE which was established in 1977. Facing the Al Khan Lagoon, the design of the large roof structure resembles waves, offering an elegant and distinctive base to the high-rise skyline behind it.

Internally, a simple brief demanded a large, open and unobstructed space allowing flexible use for many forms of exhibition spaces as well as various sizes of exhibits. The exposed, parametric roof structure lends a uniquely dynamic character to the space. The front elevation facing the Al Khan Lagoon is carefully detailed and formed in a gentle curve that follows the geometry of the bay and the Al Khan Corniche Street.

The project was designed and built within a six month period.
