Eton College Sports and Aquatics Centre is currently being built on the site of a former outdoor pool, within a landscaped bund of mature planting that screens the building and its garden settings. It is designed as a connected series of interior and exterior rooms and gardens revealed within the wooded landscape on the edges of the College grounds.
The brick building has two main volumes of Swimming Pool and Sports Hall, linked by a central double height space that provides entrances to the venues and garden spaces, as well as natural viewing galleries for spectators.
The building provides a 25m pool and a 4 court multi-use sports hall, with associated changing, support and spectator facilities. Its multiply coloured brick rectilinear envelope is punctured by dynamic fenestrated openings to provide connections to the landscape from within and to bring daylight deep within the building’s masonry and glulam timber interior.
