- Location London, United Kingdom
- Year 2022
The Peninsula London will be a new, world-class 21st century hotel for London, firmly rooted in the tradition of the Grand Hotel. The hotel will include up to 190 guest rooms, the Peninsula’s signature Lobby, as well as restaurants, spa, and ballroom. The building will also provide 24-28 apartments, with their own access off Halkin Street.
As part of the project, the owners will also provide affordable housing located at Buckingham Palace Road in Westminster. The project is expected to support over 2,000 jobs and deliver additional expenditure of £60m to the London economy annually, offering a significant boost to London’s tourism industry.
The design concept is based on the Italian Renaissance palazzo; it is a classically-informed modern response to this location, with high quality detailing and material use. The quality of the architecture and the distinctiveness of the use will add to the richness and character of Westminster.
Plans include improved public realm in Grosvenor Place, Halkin Street and Grosvenor Crescent, with easier road crossings, wider footpaths and new trees.
The design process involved extensive engagement with Historic England and Westminster City Council. Planning permission was granted in December 2015, and the project started on site in 2017. The Peninsula London is scheduled to open in 2022.
