Hopkins were asked to design a 14,000 m² extension to the Sharjah Exhibition Centre, the first trade fair centre in the UAE, established in 1977. The project has been designed and built at an astonishing speed of just over six months, from the first sketches to practical completion.

The design of the large roof structure resembles waves and offers an elegant, distinctive base to a high-rise skyline behind it. Internally, a simple brief demanded a large, open and unobstructed space, allowing flexible use by multiple typologies of exhibition spaces, as well as various sizes of the exhibits. An exposed, parametric roof structure gives a uniquely dynamic character to the space. The front elevation facing the Al Khan Lagoon is carefully detailed, and formed in a gentle curve that follows the geometry of the bay and the Al Khan Corniche Street.
