James graduated from Sheffield University, with a distinction in design, and has been with Hopkins Architects since 1987. His early works include: the Schlumberger Cambridge Research Centre; the Queen’s Building, Emmanuel College; the Dynamic Earth Centre in Edinburgh; a new Hall for the Haberdashers’ in West Smithfield; a new mixed use development and concert hall for Bury St Edmunds and new school buildings for Sherborne, Benenden and Brighton College.
He is currently directing the completion of the Peninsula Hotel project, and is also overseeing work for Eton College, including: new indoor sports facilities located within Eton’s historic core; a, soon to be completed, concert hall conversion of the College’s School Hall and Eton’s first new boarding house since 1960.
James is Chairman of the Wood Awards and sits on the board of The Wren Insurance Association
