Tom joined the practice in 2004 and was made a Director in 2016. Tom has a particular expertise in education projects and was responsible for the delivery of our work at the Henrietta Barnett School in north London, where design excellence and speed of execution enabled the provision of both new and re-configured existing teaching accommodation in the context of a highly sensitive heritage setting.
Tom spent two years working in architectural practice in the US and has brought this experience to much of Hopkins’ work in the US, including Harvard University’s Smith Campus Center which reinvigorates a landmark 1960s building and provides a new ‘front door’ to open up the University to the entire community and bring flexible vibrant learning and social spaces to the heart of the campus.
More recently, Tom has managed Colby College’s Athletics and Recreation Center in Maine, a 350,000-square-foot building which brings together all of the sports facilities under one roof. The College is one of the leading sustainable environments in the US, and one of only four to achieve carbon neutrality, so sustainability featured heavily in the project and it achieved LEED Gold and SITES accreditation. Tom is currently managing another project for the College - the design of a new Residential.
Tom also enjoys teaching, and has been a visiting critic and technical tutor for universities in the UK and the USA.
