Hopkins Architects became an Employee Ownership Trust in 2019, broadening the ownership of the practice beyond its founders and creating a structure that supports staff welfare and engagement. Our active Employee Council offers a forum for staff at all levels to raise concerns or suggest improvements to the way we work and socialise together or respond as a practice to issues taking place in the wider world.

We are an equal opportunities employer and make every effort to go beyond the minimum or legal requirements to create an inclusive workplace where everybody’s contribution is valued. Our office is an open environment where we encourage collaborative design and engagement. Salaries are competitive relevant to experience, and we offer a wide range of employee benefits that include group life insurance, employer pension contributions, generous holiday allowance, annual bonus and profit share payments (discretionary), cycle to work scheme and after two years’ service enhanced maternity and paternity pay and leave packages and private healthcare with travel insurance through Vitality.

We have a mentoring system to help staff, particularly those in the early stage of their career, and we actively encourage individual growth and career development at all levels, regularly checking in with staff about how they would like to progress and offering support for those considering apprenticeships or collaborative work/study routes. We also offer help with Part 3 study fees.

Like most organisations, the last few years have encouraged us to take another look at how we work together. We’ve developed an approach which combines flexibility for staff with an ongoing commitment to reinvigorating a strong, happy and inclusive office culture.

We have an established CSR policy, with the charities that we support chosen annually by staff. We also support individual staff in their own personal or industry charity projects. We are a close, collaborative team, and offer a range of formal and informal events that celebrate our people as well as our projects, including a Summer away day and Christmas party.
