School of Data Science breaks ground October 21, 2021
Hopkins School of Data Science for the University of Virginia has broken ground at a ceremony in the U.S.
The School of Data Science is part of the University's wider expansion masterplan designed to improve connectivity across the campus and will link its historic grounds - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - to an ambitious new chapter in UVA's development. It will be the first building to complete as part of UVA's 'Discovery Nexus' project, which will include a hotel, conference centre and performing arts centre, creating a set of public spaces and facilities to explore the full creative potential of data science.
Our design for the four-story, 61,000 square-foot building reflects UVA's commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration with strong organisational principles based, an open layout and communal areas to foster faculty and student interaction. In keeping with the University's 2030 sustainability goals, a green roof is planned to mitigate the heat gain from a south-facing roof, and offices will have windows that open to increase natural ventilation.
