Works progress on Smith Campus Center, Harvard University November 2, 2017
Work is progressing on our Smith Campus Center at Harvard University. The steel superstructure of the four pavilions (Holyoke, Dunster, L10 and Welcome) has been installed, along with most of the glass. The focus of the project is now switching to the interiors, concentrating upon the wooden acoustic batten ceilings, floor finishes, and in-built joinery, as well as the landscaping.
The project is a complete re-appraisal of the existing ten storey building on the site, the Holyoke Center, designed by Josep Lluis Sert in the 1950s. It reconfigures the ground, first, and top floors, and reinterprets the logic of Sert's architecture in a series of additions to and removals from the existing fabric, to create a family of new internal spaces interspersed with a captured internal and external landscape.
The Campus Center will open to the public in Summer 2018.
