Schlumberger Research Centre Receives Grade II* Listing February 22, 2017
We are delighted to announce that the first phase of our Schlumberger Cambridge Research Centre, completed in 1985, has been listed at Grade II* by Heritage Minister Tracey Crouch. The listing recognises the building’s significance as a “testament to the High-Tech movement of the 1980s" in the UK, that “remains a highlight of Cambridge architecture” to this day. The building was created for testing and research into new drilling techniques and houses a Test Station, surrounded by studies, laboratories and meeting rooms for the scientists. Important interaction between them was encouraged by internal glazed walls and the inclusion of a Winter Garden containing the café and library. The flexible design has allowed it to remain fit-for-purpose for more than three decades. The listing also acknowledges the strong commitment which the owners are continuing to make to their building.
