    Barkitecture is back!

    Barkitecture is back!

An integral part of annual canine show Goodwoof, we are delighted to be taking part again in this year’s Barkitecture, a showcase of inspirational kennel creations by leading international architects.

The theme for 2023 is ‘A Companion Piece – Dogs at Work. Judges will be looking for kennel designs that demonstrate how important dogs have become a part of our lifestyle and wellbeing, and represent the spaces we create for them within our homes, workplaces and schedules.

Architects need to design, construct or procure their kennel within a maximum construction budget of £250, and deliver the finished kennel to Goodwood for the event. The prototyped designs are then exhibited and sold at the annual Bonhams' Barkitecture Auction, with all the proceeds raising funds for charity, Pets as Therapy*.

Our entry, The Hound Lounge, creates a side-by-side space for companionable dog and owner relaxation. A combined kennel and armchair affords both occupants the same level of comfort, luxury and dare we say, status. What better way to pass a winter’s evening than by the fire with your hound sat beside you in their own upholstered quarters? Elegant curves and fine detailing make this kennel an ergonomic and prestigious treat.

The Hound Lounge follows hot on the heels of our 2022 entry Le Dogular, a kennel of rare distinction which combined harmonic proportions to underline the pleasing geometry of the traditional kennel. A zero waste monocroque plywood construction contributed to an affordable, lightweight easy-assembly kennel for the contemporary dog around town.

And all for a good paws – sorry – cause, with this year's auction raising over £26,000 !

*Pets as Therapy (PAT) is a national charity that enhances the health and wellbeing of thousands of people in communities across the UK, by making sure that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has access to the companionship of an animal. PAT work in care homes, hospitals, hospices, schools and prisons to give people the chance to talk to someone informally – and stroke a friendly dog or cat.
