A contemporary building of national and international significance that successfully embraces the traditions from which it has emerged. As the site currently possesses little by way of an urban context, a new landscape and setting has been created. This landscape does not absorb the building but becomes a backdrop from which its monumental aspects are emphasised.

The strong sculptural form symbolises its role as a major part of Oman's cultural heritage and with a particular emphasis on its presence on the skyline and its appearance at night. There is little precedent of what a concert hall should look like in the country and it is neither a mosque, a palace nor a hotel (but rather a new cultural and social entity) and needs to be recognised as such. It is the idea of theatre which we have returned to in our design in all its aspects.

'Everyone is an actor and all the building is the stage' was one of our guiding principals and hence the broadest notions of theatre and theatrical events have been addressed throughout our proposals. In this way, the building has become, as it should be, a beacon and advertisement for Oman's rich cultural heritage.
