This design creates an exciting new cultural centre on an island at the tip of the Dubai Creek. The landmark development will accommodate a world-class arts gallery and exhibition centre, performing arts school and associated retail facilities.
The design houses differing facilities within a single structure offering 360-degree views over the waterfront. This project is given a distinct identity combining a free-form shape with a repeating pattern inspired by traditional Islamic patterns. The principal exhibition areas are arranged in the centre of the structure whilst associated secondary functions are posted in the perimeter, resulting in clarity of organisation and wayfinding throughout.
The external promenade emphasizes the dynamic shape of the structure. In order to maintain the transparency of the building whilst achieving shade and cooling to the exhibition areas, the outer skin is designed as a ventilated triple-skin construction. Its patterned external screen on the outer layer throws a delicate and fascinating pattern of light into the exhibition areas.
Key features include:
- Ventilated, triple-layer skin
- Clear organisation of functions
- Patterned shading elements
