    Profile

    What’s in a legacy?

Hopkins is a pioneering architectural practice.

The principles we were founded on over 40 years ago – clear and logical design thinking, an honest expression of materials and purpose, a respect for context and the desire to do more with less – are perhaps even more relevant now than they were then.

Our consistent and rigorous approach has resulted in a portfolio of ground-breaking, beautiful and functional buildings, no two of which are the same. Each project is a unique expression of its circumstances, and a response to a particular set of challenges and constraints.

We were early exponents of integrated sustainability in architecture and have continued to take a pro-active approach to environmental design whether in new buildings such as our Living Planet Centre for WWF or in the adaptive re-use of existing buildings as at 100 Liverpool Street.

We also take seriously our responsibly to wider users - those who see or experience our buildings as neighbours or fellow citizens. Whether we are designing a New England campus in the U.S, a civic centre for the people of Norwich, a turtle sanctuary in the Middle East or a city block refurbishment in London, our buildings are rooted in context, demonstrating a respect for people, environment, history and heritage. In every project we look for opportunities to stitch the building into its immediate surroundings, connecting to existing uses and communities, and improving public realm.

We continue to work in partnership with our clients and their stakeholders to deliver the best and most appropriate building to support their needs, serves their purpose and transform their organisations.

    Design leadership

Our broad, international experience has given us a depth of knowledge which we adapt to address our clients’ specific requirements, as well as the conditions of a rapidly changing world. The modern industry demands more of its architects and we continue to develop our role wherever we can to provide innovative and confident design leadership.

We continue to benchmark best practice, guiding our clients to attainable targets which fuse excellent design and high performance. We employ one of the most sophisticated BIM systems in the country to ensure that our designs are underpinned by speed, efficiency and exemplary co-ordination.

Building on the founding principles of Michael and Patty Hopkins, the practice is led today by an ensemble of experienced individuals, ambitious on behalf of our clients to keep demonstrating the transformative power of great architecture.

Our 100 strong team works from offices we designed ourselves in Marylebone, a second design studio based in Dubai and a range of international project offices. Each of our design teams is led by an individual Principal, and structured to ensure continuity of design intent from brief through to delivery.
