Brighton College Begins Onsite January 25, 2016
Hopkins Architects' new Academic Building at Brighton College has broken ground in Brighton. The new five-storey building is designed as a central hub for Maths, History, Economics and Politics and will include 22 classrooms, an experimental classroom, offices, a locker room and breakout spaces for students and staff.
The building is located near the historic Front Quadrangle next to several Grade II listed structures. It will feature generous circulation areas focussed on a central atrium, which will form the social heart of the building and which will extend up to the Great Hall to the south. It will be a distinct and high-quality facility that will replace several outdated structures located on the site. The project is part of a ten-year capital development programme to enhance and invigorate the campus. The practice is working with McLaren Group as main contractor; construction is scheduled to complete in July 2017.
